Grrrrrreat!

Justin Verlander of my beloved Tigers threw a no-hitter against the Brewers in Motown on Tuesday! "Poise beyond his age," wrote ESPN's Jerry Crasnick. The 2006 American League Rookie of the Year's fastball still clocked 101 mph in the ninth inning, and his sick curveball and hit-the-brakes changeup eluded batters all night. You can watch all 27 outs here.

The final line: 9 innings pitched, 112 pitches, 0 hits, 0 earned runs, 12 strikeouts, 4 walks.
Now if that's not a reason to enjoy a cold one with your buddies, I don't know what is.

What does "marginally reflects Piper's credobaptist theology, to which I do not subscribe" mean? I don't understand what this means in terms of his theology and why you don't agree with it. Please help me understand.

Credobaptism is an understanding of baptism that posits one is only to receive baptism if he is a believer, if he already confesses Christ as Lord. Baptism is generally seen then as a sign of one's own death and rising to new life, a sign of one's faith-commitment to God (though this isn't always the case).

I don't think it really shows up in Piper's poem, except for possibly the line about holding his daughter's hand, as her willing submission to baptism shows that she is of age to believe and confess Christ.

It's still a great poem.

Oh, yeah, I'll get to the "why you don't agree with it" part later. It's 1:00 AM and I need to go to bed.

yes, I will look forward to your expanation because I don't see how you can truly follow into baptism if you don't understand what you are doing and what it represents - and how can you do that if you have not first made a commitment (or perhaps rather recognized the committment that Christ has made to you, depending on how Calvanist or Armenian you may be) to follow Chirst as Savior.

How is the job hunt going? Liv said that Chicago public schools are notorious for waiting to hire until late.

A good traditional Presbyterian/Reformed argument for paedobaptism (baptism of children) can be found at http://thirdmill.org/newfiles/den_johnson/TH.Johnson.Baptism.html

Woops, the whole link is http://thirdmill.org/newfiles/den_johnson/TH.Johnson.
Baptism.html

(you might have to type it in manually)

I get an "unavailable page" - with a comment that not much comment is deleted from the site so I should make sure I typed it in correctly - however, I did find lots to read on the website so perhaps I will still come across it.
